Slack for Customer Support
If your support team already works in Slack, Chatlio lets it answer website visitors there too. Customers use a live chat widget on your site while operators respond from Slack on desktop or mobile.
This keeps support close to the engineers, product managers and account owners who often know the answer. A teammate can join a visitor’s dedicated Slack channel instead of copying the question into another tool and carrying the answer back.
A support workflow that stays in Slack
When a visitor sends the first message, Chatlio posts it to the Slack channel you chose during setup. An operator picks up the conversation, and Chatlio creates a dedicated Slack channel for that visitor. Other teammates can join when they have relevant context.
Replies travel back to the visitor’s browser in real time. The visitor only sees the website widget. They cannot see your Slack workspace, internal messages or other customer conversations.
Operators can use Slack desktop, web and mobile clients. Chatlio supports text, files, images, code blocks, typing indicators and screenshot requests.
Give operators the context they need
Chatlio shows the visitor’s current page, location, local time, browser and operating system in Slack. For signed-in customers, use the widget JavaScript API to add information your product already knows, such as:
- name and email
- company or account ID
- subscription plan
- account owner
- trial or renewal status
- a link to the customer’s record in your own admin tool
That context cuts down on the first round of questions and helps the right person answer sooner.
Route questions to the right team
You can create separate widgets for support, sales or different products and connect each one to its own Slack channel. Question groups can ask what a visitor needs before opening a conversation and route them based on the answer.
For smaller teams, one shared widget may be enough. Chatlio includes the page URL with each visitor, so operators can see whether a question came from documentation, billing or the product itself.
Cover online and offline hours
Chatlio can determine availability from the Slack users in your connected channel, follow scheduled operating hours, or use a manual on or off setting. When the team is offline, you can show a contact form or hide the widget.
Triggers can offer help on selected pages after a delay. Used carefully, they are useful on pricing, checkout and complicated setup pages. Saved replies give operators reusable answers without turning every conversation into a bot exchange.
Connect support conversations to other systems
Chatlio can send conversation events and transcripts to your tools through webhooks and Zapier. The server API supports programmatic conversation and chat-history exports. The Segment integration can connect chat events to the rest of a visitor’s product journey.
These controls let a Slack-first team use Chatlio for the live part of support while keeping its CRM, issue tracker or reporting system up to date.
When this setup works best
Chatlio works best for teams that:
- already use Slack throughout the day
- want support, engineering and product staff to collaborate on live questions
- need website chat rather than a large omnichannel contact center
- prefer a shared team workflow over a separate agent inbox
- want developer controls without building a chat system from scratch
If your support operation centers on phone queues, social messaging or a traditional ticketing suite, use that system as the main record and connect Chatlio only if Slack-based website chat fills a clear gap.
Customer support questions
Can two operators help the same customer?
Yes. Teammates can join the same dedicated Slack channel and both replies reach the visitor.
Can customers send screenshots or files?
Yes. Files and images work in both directions. Operators can also request a browser screenshot from Slack without asking the visitor to install a plugin.
Can we export a transcript?
Yes. Operators can email a transcript with a Slack command. Webhooks and the server API provide more control for automated exports.
Does Chatlio replace our help desk?
It can be the complete live chat system for a Slack-first team. Companies that need complex ticket queues or omnichannel support often use Chatlio alongside their existing system through webhooks or Zapier.
How quickly can we install it?
Most sites need one script and one <chatlio-widget> element. After connecting Slack and choosing a channel, paste the generated code into your site. Platform-specific steps are in the setup documentation.
