Chatlio commands for Discord

Run Chatlio from Discord with the /chatlio command. Type /chatlio in your Chatlio channel or in a visitor’s thread and Discord lists the subcommands. Chatlio’s answer to a slash command is visible only to you. A saved reply or question group also leaves a note in the thread, which everyone there can read, so your team can see what was sent. /chatlio email and /chatlio send-to-webhook post their result in the thread too. The visitor never sees your command or Chatlio’s answer.

By default only server members with the Administrator permission can run /chatlio. Give your support team access under Server Settings → Integrations → Chatlio.

Run /chatlio help in Discord at any time for a short list.

Availability

Use these anywhere Chatlio is connected: the Chatlio channel or a visitor thread.

Command What it does
/chatlio status Shows whether the widget is on, its availability, what controls it (manual or operator presence, plus operating hours when the schedule is on), and what visitors see.
/chatlio on Switches Chatlio on. With operating hours on, this is an override until the next start or end of your hours. With automatic presence, the widget still shows online only while an operator is online.
/chatlio off Puts the widget into offline mode. Visitors see your offline contact form, or no widget, depending on your settings.
/chatlio auto With an operator role, switches Chatlio on and checks operator presence right away, without looking at your operating hours. Without an operator role, follows your operating hours right away, or switches Chatlio on if you have no schedule.
/chatlio who-is-here Lists members of your Chatlio operator role and whether each one counts as available.
/chatlio summary Lists your open conversations, grouped into unanswered and in progress.
/chatlio help Lists the commands.

In a visitor’s thread

Run these inside the thread of the visitor you are helping.

Command What it does
/chatlio end Ends the conversation, runs your post-chat actions (such as emailing the transcript or posting it to your webhook) and archives the thread.
/chatlio discard Ends the conversation and archives the thread without running post-chat actions.
/chatlio info Shows what Chatlio knows about the visitor.
/chatlio reply <name> Sends one of your saved replies to the visitor. Depends on your plan.
/chatlio question-group <name> Sends one of your question groups to the visitor. Depends on your plan.
/chatlio identify <traits> Adds details to the visitor, for example plan: gold. Use remove <key> to remove one.
/chatlio ask-for-info <fields> Asks the visitor for information, for example email, phone. Works only while the widget is online and the visitor is online.
/chatlio screenshot Asks the visitor to share a screenshot of the page they are on. Works only while the widget is online and the visitor is online.
/chatlio email <address> Emails the conversation transcript to an address. Chatlio posts in the thread when the email is sent, or when it fails.
/chatlio send-to-webhook Posts the conversation transcript to your webhook. Chatlio posts in the thread when it is done, or when it fails. Set the webhook address on the widget’s Behavior page first.
/chatlio ban Bans this thread’s visitor’s IP address for this widget, even after the conversation ends.

You can also type @Chatlio end, @Chatlio discard or @Chatlio ban as a normal message in the thread. Typed command replies are visible to everyone in the thread.

Visitors and bans

Command What it does
/chatlio visitors Lists visitors currently on your site. Depends on your Chatlio plan.
/chatlio ban <IP address> Bans the address you enter for this widget. Works in the Chatlio channel, an active visitor thread or an ended thread.
/chatlio ban list Lists this widget’s banned IP addresses from any of those places.
/chatlio unban Without a value (or with list), lists banned IP addresses. With an IP address, removes that ban. Works in the Chatlio channel and active or ended visitor threads.

For ban, use the optional value field to enter an IP address or list. Without a value, run it in the visitor’s thread. In the main channel, Chatlio replies with a hint to use a visitor thread or pass an IP address. If the visitor’s IP is unknown or the address you enter is invalid, Chatlio replies without creating a ban.

You can also type @Chatlio ban <IP address>, @Chatlio ban list or @Chatlio unban [IP address] as a normal message. These work in the same places as the slash commands and reply publicly. Anyone who can post there can use these typed forms; Discord’s Integrations command permissions apply to slash commands.

What a ban does:

  • A ban is for one IP address on this widget. Everyone who shares that address is blocked too, for example people in the same office.
  • Chatlio drops messages and files from a banned address without telling the visitor.
  • A ban does not end an open conversation. End it with /chatlio end or /chatlio discard.

Widget settings

Settings live under /chatlio settings. Each toggle switches the setting on or off and tells you the new state, so running a toggle twice puts the setting back. Most of these are also in the dashboard: operating hours on the widget’s Operating Hours page, the others on its Behavior page. notify-channel-on-msg is available only as a command.

Command What it does
/chatlio settings require-info Asks visitors for their name and email before they can chat.
/chatlio settings response-reminders Reminds your team when a visitor message is still unanswered.
/chatlio settings throttle-conversations <number or off> Limits how many visitors can be in a chat with you at once.
/chatlio settings operator-name Shows visitors each operator’s Discord server nickname, or their display name or username when they have no nickname, with their Discord avatar, instead of your agent label.
/chatlio settings notify-channel-on-msg Adds @here to the alert Chatlio posts in your channel for a new conversation and to response reminders. Other visitor messages do not get it.
/chatlio settings print-visitor-info <none, compact or full> Sets how much visitor information Chatlio posts for new chats. Run it in a visitor thread.
/chatlio settings op-hours-schedule Turns the operating hours schedule on or off.
/chatlio settings print-op-hours Shows your operating hours.

Coming from Slack?

The Discord commands use the words of the Slack Chatlio commands, with these differences:

  • Discord allows 25 options per command, so widget settings moved under /chatlio settings.
  • Slack’s manual-mode, dialogflow and watsonconv commands are not available in Discord. To choose manual availability, use Presence detection on the widget’s Behavior page.
  • Most commands are chosen from Discord’s command menu. In a visitor thread, typing a command such as @chatlio status gets a reply pointing you to the /chatlio command, because typed messages are not permission-checked. @chatlio end, @chatlio discard, @chatlio help, @Chatlio ban and @Chatlio unban work as typed messages.
