Chatlio commands for Microsoft Teams

Run Chatlio from Teams by mentioning it. Type @Chatlio, pick the Chatlio bot from the picker, then type the command, for example @Chatlio status. If you type @Chatlio as plain text without picking the bot, Chatlio still runs the command when a command from this page follows it.

Chatlio answers with a reply under your message. Everyone who can see the thread or channel post can read the answer. Commands that send something to the visitor, such as a saved reply, also say in the thread what was sent. The visitor never sees your command or Chatlio’s answer.

How to type a command

• Start a new message with the mention. Editing an old message into a command does nothing.
• A command with no value, such as @Chatlio off, must be the whole message. @Chatlio on my way is not a command; in a visitor’s thread it is a normal reply to the visitor.
• A command that takes a value uses the rest of the message as that value. @Chatlio reply pwd sends the saved reply “pwd”. A message that starts with one of these words after the mention is always a command, so @Chatlio email me the details is not sent to the visitor. The words are reply, question-group, ask-for-info, identify, email, send-to-webhook, ban and unban. To write to the visitor, reply in the thread without the mention.
• Use the full command word. The short forms Slack has, such as r or ss, do not work in Teams.
• If you type @Chatlio as plain text and no command follows it, the message is a normal reply. In a visitor’s thread the visitor sees it, with @Chatlio in the text.

Anywhere Chatlio is connected

Use these as a new post in the linked channel, or in a visitor’s thread.

Command	What it does
@Chatlio status	Shows whether the widget is on, its availability, what controls it (manual or operating hours), and what visitors see.
@Chatlio on	Shows the widget now. With operating hours on, this is an override until the next start or end of your hours.
@Chatlio off	Puts the widget into offline mode. Visitors see your offline contact form, or no widget, depending on your settings.
@Chatlio auto	Hands control back to operating hours. With no operating hours schedule on, it turns the widget on.
@Chatlio summary	Lists the open conversations in two groups, “Unanswered” and “In Progress”, each with a link to its thread. It shows the five that have waited longest in each group and counts the rest.
@Chatlio visitors	Lists the visitors on your site right now, with the page each one is on.
@Chatlio unban	Lists the banned IP addresses.
@Chatlio unban <ip>	Lifts the ban on that IP address.
@Chatlio replies	Lists your saved replies with their shortcuts.
@Chatlio question-groups	Lists your question groups with their shortcuts.
@Chatlio help	Lists the commands.

In a visitor’s thread

Run these as a reply inside the thread of the visitor you are helping.

Command	What it does
@Chatlio end	Ends the conversation, marks the conversation card Closed, and sends the transcript email and the transcript webhook if you turned them on. See Transcripts.
@Chatlio discard	Ends the conversation the same way, with no transcript email and no transcript webhook. Use it for spam or test chats.
@Chatlio info	Shows what Chatlio knows about the visitor, in a Visitor information card.
@Chatlio identify <traits>	Adds or changes details stored with the visitor, for example @Chatlio identify plan: gold, company: Acme. email, name and userId set the visitor’s email, name and user ID. @Chatlio identify remove plan removes one. Chatlio answers with the visitor’s details.
@Chatlio reply <name>	Sends one of your saved replies to the visitor. Use its label or its shortcut.
@Chatlio question-group <name>	Sends one of your question groups to the visitor. Use its label or its shortcut.
@Chatlio ask-for-info <fields>	Asks the visitor for information, for example email, phone.
@Chatlio screenshot	Asks the visitor to share a screenshot of the page they are on. The screenshot arrives in the thread if the visitor agrees.
@Chatlio email <address>	Emails the conversation so far to that address. You can give up to 10 addresses. Chatlio says “Email sent!” in the thread when it has gone. See Transcripts.
@Chatlio send-to-webhook	Posts the conversation so far to the transcript webhook set on the widget’s Behavior page. Words you type after the command are passed along as extraData. See Transcripts.
@Chatlio ban	Bans the visitor’s IP address. See Banning a visitor.

Outside a visitor’s thread these commands answer “This command is only available inside a Chatlio visitor thread.” (email and send-to-webhook answer “No conversation found. Use this command in a visitor thread.”). In the thread of a conversation that is over, every command answers that the conversation has ended.

reply, replies, question-group, question-groups and visitors need a plan that includes the feature. Without it Chatlio answers “Your current plan does not include this feature.”

Transcripts

Chatlio builds a Teams transcript from the messages it stores, so transcripts need Chat History Storage. New accounts start with it on. On an existing account, an account admin turns it on in the dashboard, under Account & users. While it is off:

• @Chatlio email and @Chatlio send-to-webhook answer “Teams transcripts need Chat History Storage. Turn it on under Account” with a link to that page.
• Chatlio sends no transcript email and no transcript webhook when a conversation ends.

A transcript has the text of the messages sent while storage was on. A message from before that shows as “[Message content is no longer retained]”.

Banning a visitor

@Chatlio ban in a visitor’s thread bans the IP address that visitor is writing from. After that:

• Messages, files, ratings and feedback from that address no longer reach your team.
• The visitor is not told. Their widget looks the same, and what they send goes nowhere.
• The conversation stays open. End it with @Chatlio end or @Chatlio discard if you are done with it.
• The ban is for this widget only, and it covers everyone who shares that address, such as an office network.

@Chatlio ban <ip> in a visitor’s thread bans an address you type, and @Chatlio ban list shows the bans. @Chatlio unban lists them from anywhere, and @Chatlio unban <ip> lifts one.

Linking a channel

Command	What it does
@Chatlio link <code>	Links the channel you post it in to a Chatlio widget. You get the code in the widget’s setup in the dashboard. The code works once and expires after 10 minutes. See Install.

Chatlio does not answer this one in Teams. The dashboard shows the result.

Coming from Slack or Discord?

The Teams commands use the words of the Slack Chatlio commands and the Discord commands, with these differences:

• You mention Chatlio instead of typing /chatlio, because Teams has no slash commands for apps.
• Chatlio’s answer is visible to everyone in the thread, not only to you.
• Teams has no list of who may run commands. Everyone who can post in the linked channel can.
• Not available in Teams: who-is-here and the settings commands. Change widget settings on the widget’s Behavior page in the dashboard.
• Saved replies with trigger phrases and Send automatically work as in Discord: Chatlio sends the reply when a visitor’s message contains one of the phrases, and says so in the thread. Teams does not suggest replies for you to pick from, as Slack does.
